Kettler, a real estate development and property management company, commissioned FOX Architects to design its new, combined headquarters in McLean, Virginia. This space brought several challenges: it had a smaller floorplate, the budget for high-end, luxury finishes was limited, and the space needed to encourage cross-collaboration.
FOX Architects created an open environment, supplemented by intimate work zones and energizing amenity spaces for collaboration and team-building throughout the organization. Amenity and collaboration areas are accentuated with textural density and layered patterns. A large, centrally located café features several seating options, including a sofa for relaxation and a standing-height, communal table for casual collaboration. Glass wall cutouts offer glimpses of activity for passersby and separation for those using the cafe.
To keep costs down, our team designed a stylized rendering of the greater Washington area. This large art piece resides above the banquette seating in the employee lounge. Dramatic lighting fixtures in the reception area were also designed by the team to keep the large installation affordable.
With a limited budget, the FOX Architects team designed a space that appears modern, high-end, and professional, while promoting collaboration among employees.
