International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) is an international nonprofit that provides assistance for elections in new and emerging democracies. When IFES relocated to a new office, they wanted a change from their mostly closed former space, which lacked brand presence and natural light. The challenge was creating a new, light-filled, flexible space that supports the organization’s work and staff interaction.
The FOX Architects team designed a large café and positioned it along the window line for maximum natural light and views of the National Mall and Ronald Reagan National Airport. The café was designed as a community space for meetings, staff events, and socialization. Workspaces are comprised of small neighborhoods of open work bays with adjacent private offices to support the organization’s work style. With sightlines to windows, every workspace has access to natural light. Throughout the office, the organization’s brand and work is conveyed through graphic elements from their projects around the globe.
The new office for International Foundation for Electoral Systems showcases their unique brand and mission with graphic elements and daylight-filled collaborative spaces. Flexible spaces include a café that doubles as a meeting and event space, with workstations oriented around teamwork.
