HWG’s existing office, previously designed for another law firm was dark, dated, and disconnected and limited cosmetic updates made upon moving in did little to address the fundamental misalignment between the space and HWG’s culture. Materials, lighting, and spatial flow were no longer functioning effectively—especially as the firm embraced a hybrid work model post-pandemic. This renovation provided the opportunity to reimagine the office environment as one that is both beautiful and highly functional. The design objective was to create a welcoming, flexible workspace that reflects HWG’s collegial spirit, supports new ways of working, and enhances day-to-day operations for all employees.
To reflect HWG’s warm and welcoming culture, FOX reimagined the office as a bright, comfortable, and connected environment. A palette of light finishes, combined with a thoughtful mix of direct and indirect lighting, transformed the once dim interior into a vibrant and inviting space. New glass elements introduced at the reception, café, conferencing, and office areas maximize access to natural daylight, strengthening visual connections to the outdoors and among team members. To bring a sense of coziness and calm, the design incorporates textural materials, soft wood tones, and biophilic elements throughout, adding warmth and tactile richness that soften the overall atmosphere. By rethinking spatial flow and integrating consistent design elements, the previously fragmented layout was reshaped into a unified and efficient interior. The renovation also prioritizes flexibility, offering a range of meeting and collaboration spaces—from formal conference rooms to casual breakout areas—that empower individuals and teams to choose how and where they work, supporting HWG’s hybrid model and fostering meaningful, everyday connections across the firm.
A key component of HWG’s culture is the belief that they deliver better solutions to clients when individuals within the firm lead well-rounded, balanced lives. Inspired by this philosophy, FOX approached the design with an emphasis on both symmetrical and asymmetrical balance throughout the architectural elements. The space includes a range of unique environments that promote personal well-being, such as wellness rooms, a game room, informal work lounges, and a hidden employee speakeasy concealed behind a “secret” library bookcase. The reimagined office has had a transformative effect on HWG, aligning the physical environment with the firm’s identity and values. By replacing a dated, inherited layout with a design tailored to their culture, the new workplace enhances the client experience while supporting employee wellness. Natural materials, abundant daylight, and flexible meeting spaces come together to create a warm, functional setting that accommodates a range of workstyles. This thoughtful design fosters stronger collaboration, encourages meaningful connections, and reflects HWG’s commitment to a modern, people-centered work environment.
