SoundExchange

Location: Washington, DC
Project Size: 30,000 SF

SoundExchange is a non-profit performance rights organization that collects statutory royalties from satellite radio (such as SIRIUS XM), Internet radio (like Pandora), cable TV music channels and similar platforms for streaming sound recordings. It is one of the most modern and groundbreaking organizations in the music industry. Located in the heart of DC’s entertainment district, SoundExchange’s new headquarters reflects the company’s youthful culture and passion for music while maintaining a professional aesthetic.

The FOX design team kept  the client’s young staff central to the design concept. The design purposefully opens up the office perimeter to allow as much natural light as possible. To further facilitate each division’s culture and work, FOX incorporated a spectrum of different collaboration areas from conference rooms to a lounge space that supports casual team gatherings. The pantry/cafe is located along the window line as a  destination place for staff to socialize, unwind
and relax.

The interconnecting stair is a defining element in the space. Both functional and beautiful, it provides a place and space to communicate Soundexchange’s brand and the industry, as a whole. One of the main features throughout the space is the “ceiling wave”. This unique design element, flows and intersects at the reception area and provides a physical link to different areas in the office. The “ceiling wave” mimics a sound wave – reinforcing the company’s brand and serves as a signature design element in the space.
