Reston Association

Location: Reston, VA

Reston Association (RA)—a nonprofit organization for residents of Reston, VA—supports and maintains the community’s high quality of life. In addition to creating a friendly, comfortable environment for staff and visitors alike, RA wanted to incorporate its brand throughout the space in a way that reinforced its mission using sustainable design.

The association’s commitment to sustainability was evident from the beginning, when it chose Reston Corner 1 at 12001 Sunrise Valley Drive for its headquarters. The central location was easily accessible with immense grounds. Indoors, RA’s goal of sustainability was met using recycled materials and environmentally friendly fixtures and finishes.

The layout for the first floor consisted of entirely open space suitable for the association’s many public functions. The main reception area housed the organization’s members services department, where RA connects with visitors from the community. A conference center on the first floor is large enough to accommodate Reston’s monthly town hall meetings but can be divided into three smaller rooms for select groups, such as the community’s design review board. FOX’s design team selected light, airy finishes and a bamboo-strand wallboard to complement the space with the association’s tagline, “Live, Work, Play,” incorporated into the overall design.
