MediaDC, the publisher of the conservative news publications The Weekly Standard, Washington Examiner, and Red Alert Politics, sought to create a new headquarters location that combined the three publications into one central office in the District of Columbia. MediaDC wanted a welcoming, collaborative space that would represent a new era for the publication company.
The result is a new, conservative-transitional design that combines the rich tradition of the political stage with the creative nature of MediaDC’s staff. The overall design concept was threefold. First, the design team used the physical space to visually represent the relationship between the three publications and the influence of the local political news scene. Second, the design team sought to inspire MediaDC’s multigenerational staff with a new patriotic and digital look. Third, the team incorporated consistent elements throughout to signify a unified, fully-integrated organization.
The design includes an open floor plan and several flexible conference areas with private offices located strategically along the building exterior. Supporting the necessity for private offices, glass fronts and walls were used to open up the space and draw natural light deep into the space’s core while still allowing for privacy.
