The Client sought to create a new office space in the nation’s capital that would provide optimum flexibility for their employees and clients. In addition to flexibility, it was also important to promote connectivity among their employees in a space that spans three floors. The linking element which is central to the plan and which spans all three floors is the glass monumental stair. The stair serves to connect areas of high interaction at each floor while the adjacent cascading water feature provides a tranquil backdrop to the reception areas, conference center, community plaza and café. The linking element, central to the plan, which spans all three floors, is the glass monumental stair complemented by a cascading waterfall feature. The monumental stair provides connectivity within the space while the water feature provides a calming element and acoustical benefit while serving as a backdrop to the reception areas and café. This project earned a LEED Gold certification.

The multi-functional community plaza concept was designed to foster a sense of community for this global organization, giving employees a place to socially gather as well as to relax and exchange ideas. Four days a week the community plaza is comprised of a complex conferencing center with five glass-fronted conference rooms separated by Skyfold® powerlift partitions. When retracted into the ceiling plenum, the plaza is transformed into one large conference facility which can accommodate 200 people seated at tables for an office wide luncheon. This comfortable gathering space enables ideas and information to be communicated to the entire employee team.
