Environmental Law Institute

Location: Washington, DC

The Environmental Law Institute (ELI) is a non-profit, non-advocacy environmental group, which specializes in producing publications and research that target legal practitioners, business leaders, land managers, land use planners, environmentalists, journalists, and lawmakers. Their vision calls for “a healthy environment, prosperous economies, and vibrant communities founded on the rule of law.”

Inspired by ELI’s vision, FOX’s design concept focused on urban parks; utilizing juxtaposition of green space with public forums. The new office space design reinforced the organization’s identity while simultaneously enhancing the office surroundings for staff. Open workstations occupy the interior space while private offices were adjacent to the window line. Vibrant brand colors wrap around columns to create a livelier and polished aesthetic. Further supporting the mission, sliding barn doors crafted of reclaimed wood served as a signature piece furnishing all private offices. To create a flexible environment promoting interaction and collaboration, the design team constructed a café situated next to several huddle rooms. Low slab ceiling heights were balanced to give an illusion of open space in the café.
