District Department of Transportation

Project Size: 150,000 SF

Located in Southeast DC, the building housing the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is situated perfectly to capture breathtaking views of the Capitol, the Washington Monument and the entrance to Nationals Stadium. FOX designed the office to capitalize on the fantastic views by including public spaces along the window line.

The design concept was based on transportation and movement. FOX executed this idea with graphic images on select wall coverings, open ceilings with exposed ductwork and the placement of DDOT’s logo in the elevator lobby. To further brand the space, the design team identified accent colors on each floor to complement DDOT’s logo and color scheme and fabricated transportation images on each pantry wall, which were placed in identical locations on every floor. A separate design concept was flexibility, which was manifested with multiple meeting spaces on each floor, including large conference rooms as well as informal touchdown workstations and small teaming areas. The project is currently pursuing LEED Silver certification.
