American Forest & Paper Associaton

Location: Washington, DC
Project Size: 28,000 SF

AF&PA's member companies make more than 75 percent of the U.S.'s pulp, paper, paper-based packaging and wood building materials-essential products used every day that are made from renewable and recyclable resources that sustain the environment. This Association represents the diverse spectrum of the forest products industry. From independent forest owners, to family-owned mills, to large multi-product, publicly-owned companies that manufacture pulp, paper, paperboard and wood products.

Bringing advocacy to the paper industries different sectors was one of the primary goals when designing the space. Key design features such as the hexicomb wall and a screen wall comprised of tree limbs are physical representations of AF&PA's core members. Glass office fronts permit natural light to penetrate over 90% the space, giving the office an open and prosperous environment. Graphic banners strategically placed throughout the space sport facts about the paper industry and how it quietly touches our day-to-day activities and help spread advocacy to passerbys about the importance of paper.

With creative use of recycled content, high air quality goals, use of locally manufactured material, and reusing existing building systems this project was able to achieve a 3 out of 4 Green Globe Certification rating. AF&PA now has a bright, healthy space that strongly reinforces their brand and motivates its employees.
