Building Information Modeling

Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a database of both graphical
and non-graphical information that is created, captured, stored,
managed, coordinated, updated and disseminated to the entire building
team to produce a consistent virtual model of the built environment
before it is physically constructed. By virtually building the new
design environment we are able to test, evolve and quantify the virtual
model during the design phases. This information allows the design team
to make more informed decisions that produce built environments whose
performances are better understood before construction and completion.
The design team’s use of a shared database of information allows for a
higher level of coordination and communication without the time spent
creating redundant information that can lead to errors.
We are
currently using Building Information Modeling to create more informed
designs that can be tested and evaluated before being built. We use
this process with the various building team members to make more
informed decisions that are better communicated, coordinated and that
are more accurately documented. The use of this process allows for a
more cohesive teaming environment that uses technology to allow for the
exchange and understanding of ideas that make for better built
environments.
Key advantages for our clients:
- Seamless team communication and coordination
- Less time spent on documenting the process allows for time spent creating more thoughtful design decisions
- Design that is analyzed and tested before being constructed
- Provides a central database that can capture, retain and disseminate the information of a project
